Title of Source: How to compose a song, Interview
MLA: Nadine, Raika. Interview. 2 Nov. 2017
Basakinici, Lara. Interview. 2 Nov. 2017.
Content: The goal of this process journal is to demonstrate my researching skills on how to link bullying, with the way music can impact the world and on how to compose a song. The aim of my project is to compose a song. Therefore, I decided to interview two experts, asking them the same questions. The first expert is a signing teacher, Raika Nadine. The second expert is Lara Basakinici which is a music teacher, singing teacher, she composes music for TV shows, or for singers as well as movies and she composes her own songs. I asked both 5 same questions which was going to help me have a clear idea on how to compose a song and on how to start. I asked them to answer briefly and give the most important points they were thinking of when asking a question.
Lara: Find inspiration. Brainstorm. Play chords over and over and pick your favorite ones. Create melody. Practise practise and make changes.
4. What instruments should I use to compose a song? Raika: Piano is the best option and easier.
Lara: Use the instrument you can play the best. Choose the chords. Play those chords on the piano and compose while playing them on the piano. Piano is a good option once you found the chords because it is easy to play chords even if you do not know how to play the piano.
5.How can I know my song is successful? Raika: The best way to know is to perform it life or to make it listen to an audience.
Lara: Perform it life, ask for feedback from experts, music teachers ect. Ask teenegers, or the audience you are focusing on. Also, upload it on Youtube and see the amount of views.
My final conclusion: From this advice I decided to first brainstorm, then work on my guitar finding arpeggios and finding the main chords accompaniment. Later I will write down the lyrics and brainstorm the final lyrics I want to use and make up a melody using a keyboard. I will later, practice it until I find the final melody and the final song. After, I will record it with my expert, ask for feedback from other experts, and make the useful changes.
Origin: Raika is a singing teacher and an expert in piano teaching and singing teaching. Lara studied in a music conservatoire which is a really good school. Additionally, she composes songs for turkish singers as well as movies and teacher music (piano and singing).
Purpose: The purpose of this meeting was to be able to find out more about composing songs. It was important for me to be able to ask someone that I personally know is experienced and that would tell me their real opinion based on their experience how to start and what i should do. The internet was not a good source because people write random notes down and I couldn’t find a reliable source.
Value: This interview was really valuable to me as I was able to plan the steps that I was going to take in order to compose my song.
Limitation: The limitation of this interview is that I forgot to include a question for them to presented themselves and give the specific school and universities names and the degrees ect they received. I already knew that both of them are experts but having it in a question could have been helpful.

- How do I start composing a song?
Raika: For me, it would be good if you first write down what you want your song to be about and what you want your song to argue or discuss.
Lara: Find a topic and then find theme to argue. Answer questions related to the topic and write down key terms.
My conclusion: Create a brainstorm of the argued topic and lyrics that I would like to use. Create a plan of what I want to include in my song. Instruments, vocals, lyrics, chords. - What is the most important step?
Raika: The most important step is practising the song and changing the melody over time.
Lara: The most important part is knowing that you will start with a melody but you have to practise it a lot in order to find the best melody that you like the most in order to be satisfied with your final product. - Can you list 5 steps for the process?
Lara: Find inspiration. Brainstorm. Play chords over and over and pick your favorite ones. Create melody. Practise practise and make changes.
